Top 5 Devotionals to Start Your New Year

The start of a new year is always an exciting time! It’s no secret that the month of January is a time of reflection and thanksgiving.

No matter how good or bad 2022 may have gone, God sustained us and will continue to do so.

This time of year is also the perfect time to set intentions for yourself, personally, mentally, and spiritually. Setting intentions, or goals, may look like committing to working out twice a week, completing a daily journal prompt, volunteering in a church ministry, or beginning to seek God in a deeper way.

If you can relate to wanting to go deeper in your faith in 2023 and seek God more intimately we’ve got just the thing! Here are five books we recommend to grow in your walk with Jesus.

1. 40 Days Through the Bible: The Answers to Your Deepest Longings

Author Lysa TerKeurst and the Proverbs 31 Leadership Team lay out the storyline of the Bible in 40 days by examining major themes and showing how they are connected. Each day features an excerpt of scripture to study along with questions to help further understand the text. This book also features visuals and timelines to guide you through key moments in each book of the bible.

2. The 20-Minute Bible Study Guide - Volume 1

The 20-minute Bible Study Guide is the perfect study for those that are constantly on the go.

Each day you’ll spend 20 minutes diving into scripture in the books of John, Romans, Ruth, Exodus 1-24, Hebrews, Psalms 1-48, 1 & 2 Thessalonians, Judges, Haggai, and Revelation. This bible study is flexible and allows you to start on any Monday of the year.

Once you finish volume 1 you can pick up volumes 2 and 3 to complete the entire series!

3. Crazy Faith: It's Only Crazy Until It Happens

Whether you’re new in your walk with Jesus or you’re mature in your walk, Pastor Michael Todd’s Crazy Faith: It’s Only Crazy Until It Happens is a great book to increase your faith.

Through real-life examples backed with scripture and wise counsel, Michael Todd shows us how to step out in faith and dive into the purposeful life of trusting God for the impossible. There are many impactful themes in this book including learning to speak faith-filled declarations, choosing hope over fear, coping with loss and doubt, and much more. A workbook accompanies this reading should you choose to read through it with a group. If you’re believing God for big things in 2023, this book would be a great investment to make.

4. Crash the Chatterbox

Are you struggling with insecurity, doubt, or anxiety? Let's face it. We’ve all been there!

Pastor Steven Furtick’s Crash the Chatterbox teaches readers how to tune in to God's quiet, empowering call by silencing the enemy's lies and embracing the truth. This book is a fairly short read, with it being only 240 pages, but it’s packed with valuable tools to fight the voice of the enemy.

Similar to Crazy Faith, this book also comes with a workbook if you wish to complete it with a group or want more insight while reading through it alone.

5. New Morning Mercies: A Daily Gospel Devotional

In this devotional, Pastor Paul David Tripp beautifully blends wisdom and the insight of scripture to refresh readers daily. Instead of surface-level teachings, this book gives readers an encounter with the living God.

As you move through this devotional you’ll gain a better understanding of what truly means to rely on his grace, and live for his glory each and every day.

This book is meant to be read over the course of a year, but you can certainly read it at your own pace.

We hope this list blesses you as you look to go deeper this year!
